I’m not anti-Salman, neither was my post: Renuka Shahane
Renuka Shahane's Facebook post on Salman Khan's acquittal in the blackbuck case obviously didn't go down well with Salman's fans and the actress has been facing trolls ever since. Shahane, who played Salman's bhabhi in Hum Aapke Hain Koun, has now clarified that she is not against Salman, and was just raising questions about the judicial system.
Sultan crossed 550 crore landmark on BO collection
After PK (Rs 792 crore), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Rs 626 crore) and Bahubali: The Beginning (Rs 586.45 crore), filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar’s Salman Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer, Sultan, has crossed the Rs 550 crore mark .
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirms “The figure includes overseas and domestic collections.” The film, which released on July 6, has so far earned Rs 405 crore in the domestic market and Rs 151 crore in the international market. The film’s production house, Yash Raj Films, confirmed this. The first weekend collections of the film were Rs 105.50 crore.
However, giving stiff competition to Salman’s film is actor Rajinikanth’s film Kabali, which released on July 22. The film earned Rs 109.25 crore in the first three days of the its release, which is Rs 4 crore more than Sultan.
Though Kabali released thirteen days after Sultan, comparisons between the two films are inevitable because of the star power and the big bucks both films are raking in. However, trade analysts do not think it is a fair thing to do.
“It’s not fair to compare the two films. I think they have two very different demographics. The advantage of regional movies is that they can be dubbed into different languages, whereas Bollywood movies release only in Hindi first,” says trade analyst Omar Qureshi.
While trade analyst Amul Mohan feels that actor Rajinikanth’s stardom is unparalleled, he says that Sultan, too, would have had a bigger craze if it was dubbed in more languages. “Rajinikanth is beyond any other actor’s popularity in Bollywood. Having said that, even Salman’s popularity is huge and he is getting there. It’s not right to compare the two films because of the difference in the reach regional cinema and Bollywood have,” says Mohan.
“Kabali has made Rs 15.4 crore alone in the Hindi dubbed version in the north. That is a big number. Can you imagine a Sultan releasing down south and doing Rs 15 crore-worth business. That would only add to the business done so far now,” he adds.

Dishoom team planned to be protected from piracy
Dishoom team plans a safer action against the threat of piracy. They submitted an encrypted copy of the film to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and have sought high court’s intervention to ensure the film is not leaked before it hits theatres.
After the piracy affected the Udta Punjab and Great Grand Masti's box office collection, the John Abraham-Varun Dhawan-Jacuqline Fernandez-starrer Dishoom team is not taking this matter lightly.
Prominent Hindi film producers and studio representatives met last week to discuss the issue. “The producers of John Abraham and Varun Dhawan-starrer ‘Dishoom’ are in the process of obtaining ‘John Doe’ order (order against anonymous entities) from the Bombay high court, directing Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Telecom Operators and other platforms to ensure that any illegal content from ‘Dishoom’ is not made available on their services,” Mukesh Bhatt, President of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India, said in a statement here
He further said, “This issue should not be treated in isolation as piracy for films, but the sheer impunity and brazenness with which this illegality is being propounded indicates a structured attempt to damage the industry on the whole and should be considered as a serious threat.”
“We require the highest level of probe from the intelligence services of the country and even an intervention by the Prime Minister,” he added.
According to a Mid Day report, Dishoom was submitted in an encrypted format to the censor board when they sought the CBFC’s approval. The report said filmmakers usually pay Rs 34,000 to the CBFC for certification of the films apart from shelling out Rs 3000 for food and beverages for the Board members at the screening. “Earlier, films were submitted on DVD, which was cheap. Now the DCP-KDM format will cost the producer Rs 20,000 extra,” Bhatt said.
court gets softer on salman khan's blackbuck poaching & Arms Act cases
It looks like time is completely in the favour of Salman khan. The Super Star is accused of killing two blackbucks in Kankani village on the intervening night of October 1 and 2, 1998 and for allegedly possessing arms with an expired licence.
The case is looking to be in the favour of Salman as his counsel said that, while the examination of the 28 witnesses is over in the Kankani case, re-examination of a prosecution witness, then district magistrate Rajat Kumar Mishra, is scheduled on August 3.
Subsequently, Salman's lawyer also using the the contradictions between the video recording of the statements given by then forest officer Lalit Bora and his written statements. The defence moved a fresh application for re-examination of the same prosecution witnesses, citing changed circumstances due to the prosecution's application.
A single bench of Rajasthan High Court on Monday acquitted Salman Khan in two cases related to poaching of chinkaras in Bhawad and Mathania here in 1998, saying that the air gun recovered from the Salman's room at Ummed Palace cannot kill a big animal. Such guns can kill small animals like rabbit or bird, the court observed.
Justice Kaur observed that even the prosecution has admitted that they were not able to establish the weapon used for the alleged hunting, leading to the acquittal of Salman under Section 27 of the Arms Act. Khan, 50, was jailed in 2007 for nearly a week for shooting an endangered gazelle in 1998.
But wildlife activist Rupesh Kant Vyas said, "If the government doesn't appeal against the acquittal, it would mean it is hand-in-glove with the superstar and made the case against him weak intentionally."
Ali abbas is happy with Kabali vs sultan fight at box office
Sultan's director Ali Abbas Zafar is very much satisfied with the Sultan's tremendous success at the box office. Be he also said that he was ready for the Grand Opening of Kabali
As Sultan is still running at decent pace at the box office by collecting Rs 11 crores even at the third weekend, hence it's domestic collection goes to Rs 290 crores.
Therefore Ali Zafar seems not entirely surprised that the Kabali craze hasn't particularly dimmed Sultan's standing at the box office.
Ali said: "It's a great time for the Indian film industry with Kabali and Sultan being at the box office and still getting the equal share of the pie. With stars like Rajinikanth sir and Salman - the hype around the stars creates the competition, but they have very strong fan followings. In the end, the industry only benefits because it has been a dull year at the box office."
Ali Abbas Zafar, 36, is enjoying his muscle at the box office and talking about muscle, after a recent picture with Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone. He is very fond of the Sylvester Stallone and penning a script for him.
Ali said in his interview with NDTV: "For now, I would just say I would love to do a film with him."
And in the question about Ali to work with in the future?
"Alia Bhatt really excites me. She's doing such fabulous stuff. I saw Udta Punjab and she was out of this world," he said. But before his next movie, Ali plans to take a break somewhere in Europe to enjoy the Sultan's success.
He says to NDTV that he's not going to take his success for granted. "Salim uncle (Salman Khan's father Salim Khan) says it's like riding a tiger. As long as you're riding it, it's fine. But it also may just eat you up," he said.
